The Federation of Private Medical Practitioners’ Association Malaysia (FPMPAM) has expressed its disappointment and frustration with the enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living who have begun issuing ultimatums to clinics to display medicine prices.
- Enforcement officers have started visiting clinics, issuing three-day ultimatums to display medicine prices or face legal summonses.
- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living had assured a grace period, but enforcement officers have acted independently and without legal consistency.
- FPMPAM has called for ministerial accountability for this breach of trust.
FPMPAM President Dr Shanmuganathan TV Ganeson has stated that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s actions confirm his worst fears that there is no real grace period, no formal moratorium, and no legal protection for clinics acting in good faith.
“This confirms our worst fears, that there is no real grace period, no formal moratorium and no legal protection for clinics acting in good faith. This is not policy reform, it is regulatory betrayal. Verbal promises are worthless when officers on the ground act independently and without legal consistency,” said Dr Shanmuganathan.
FPMPAM demands immediate halt to all punitive inspections until clear national guidelines are issued. The association also calls for a written, gazetted directive confirming any grace period, enforceable by law.
FPMPAM’s Demands
- Immediate halt to all punitive inspections until clear national guidelines are issued.
- A written, gazetted directive confirming any grace period, enforceable by law.
- Ministerial accountability for this breach of trust.
FPMPAM supports transparency, but not at the cost of legal uncertainty, administrative bullying, and public confusion. The association will begin legal documentation of all enforcement actions and advise clinics on how to protect themselves.
