What’s Changing

Mozilla is updating its Terms of Use (TOU) and Privacy Notice to better reflect the current state of the web and the evolving needs of users. The changes aim to provide more transparency and clarity on how Mozilla collects, uses, and protects user data.

Key Changes

  • Data Collection: Mozilla will collect more data on user behavior, including browsing history, search queries, and device information. Data Use: Mozilla will use this data to improve the Firefox experience, personalize recommendations, and enhance security features. Data Protection: Mozilla will implement additional measures to protect user data, including encryption and secure storage.

We’ve also removed the reference to the Privacy Policy.

    Mozilla’s Commitment to User Privacy

Mozilla has long been a champion of user privacy, and this commitment is reflected in their approach to data collection and usage.

Mozilla has also been a strong advocate for the right to data portability, which allows users to transfer their data from one service to another. This right is enshrined in the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and is also supported by the US Congress in the Data Care Act.

    The Evolution of Data Portability

The concept of data portability has been around for several years, but it has gained significant traction in recent years. The idea is simple: users should be able to take their data with them when they switch services or providers. This means that users should be able to export their data from one service, such as their email or social media account, and import it into another service.

    Benefits of Data Portability

There are several benefits to data portability. Some of the most significant advantages include:

  • Increased user control: By allowing users to take their data with them, data portability gives users more control over their personal information. Improved data quality: When users can export their data, they can ensure that it is accurate and up-to-date. Reduced data breaches: By having control over their data, users can reduce the risk of data breaches. * Increased competition: Data portability can lead to increased competition among service providers, as users are more likely to switch to a service that offers better data portability. ## The Legal Framework**
  • The Legal Framework

The legal framework for data portability is evolving rapidly.

We’re continuing to make sure that Firefox provides you with sensible default settings that you can review during onboarding or adjust at any time.
